Poor outing: Nigeria quits Beach soccer…

Following Nigeria’s poor performance at the 2019 Beach Soccer World Cup, The Nigeria Football Federation executive committee has suspended indefinitely its participation at International Beach Soccer Events with immediate effect.

The NFF executive committee in a meeting in which was held at Benin, Edo State said:

“The Board unanimously resolved to put on hold Nigeria’s participation in international beach soccer tournaments until such a time that certain benchmarks, most importantly the creation and sustenance of a beach soccer league in the country, are met.”

A five-man committee headed by Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi and
including Mallam Shehu Dikko, Alh. Ahmed Yusuf
‘Fresh’, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu and Dr. Mohammed Sanusi was put in place to determine
the modalities and guidelines, and to encourage States wishing to launch full-steam beach soccer
leagues and compete among themselves or internationally.

Nigeria had it’s worst outing at the 2019 FIFA Beach World Cup which was held in Paraguay where it lost all three matches conceding 28 goals.

The Sand eagles started the campaign losing 10-1
to eventual Champions Portugal then lost 6-5 to Oman. The woeful tournament was concluded with a 12-2 defeat to Brazil.
