Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been out since last season, after suffering an injury in a friendly game just before the Europa League final.

Loftus-Cheek ruptured his Achilles in Chelsea’s end-of-season charity match against New England Revolution in May.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been handed a boost with the lively midfielder edging closer to a return. The 23-year-old was outstanding last term as he contributed 10 goals and five assists in his 40 appearances for Chelsea before the injury. He was at his best of forms just before that injury.

Chelsea are now hoping Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be ready to return to action next month, and if his last season’s form is anything to go by, the big midfielder can be the spark Chelsea needs in midfield.

Loftus-Cheek posted a video of himself undertaking some solo training, increasing his intensity in a number of simple drills.

Loftus-Cheek should have been back by now but he suffered some setbacks on his return.

Ahead of Chelsea’s game against Bournemouth, Lampard was asked how long Loftus-Cheek will be out: “I don’t know, I don’t know.”

When asked if it was weeks or months, Lampard added: “Probably more than weeks.”
