Frank Lampard has hopefully all but ended the
penalty saga at Chelsea by confirming that
Jorginho is his first choice penalty taker.
The manager was giving his standard post match
press conference, and he was asked about the
spot kick that gave the Blues the lead against
Brighton by Goal.com journalist Nizaar Kinsella:
“That should settle that. Ross Barkley, Tammy
Abraham and Willian were all on the pitch with
Jorginho when the penalty was given, and the
Italy international took and scored it easily. That
should be the end of the matter – at least in
games where he’s on the pitch”.
Lampard went on to compliment Jorginho as a
“leader” in the team, and he clearly still sees him
as a vital building block of this team going
forwards.
“When he performs like he did today,
it’s easy to see why. As well as his standard
passing duty, he hoovered up Brighton’s attacks
effectively in the absence of N’Golo Kante”.
