Shinji Okazaki leaves Malaga without playing

Shinji Okazaki in pre-season action for Malaga
against Real Mallorca

Okazaki contract was however at
terminated after just four weeks with the Spanish
club unable to register the former Leicester City
striker without breaching the salary cap.

Complications arose immediately, Malaga owner
Abdullah Al Thani taking a week to sanction the
deal for which the club’s sporting director Jose
Luis Caminero publicly apologised to Okazaki and
his agent.
Then, La Liga barred Okazaki’s registration with his
contract taking Malaga over the salary threshold.
Malaga were unable to free up enough funds for
Okazaki’s registration to be authorised, the club
choosing instead to sign three further players on
European deadline day – Mohamed Benkhemassa
(ASM Alger), Lorenzo Gonzalez (Manchester City)
and Armando Sadiku (Levante) – before cancelling
the Japanese striker’s contract.

Okazaki won the Premier League with Leicester in
2016 and left this summer after scoring 19 goals in
137 games.
He did not feature in Malaga’s three league matches
this season and is now a free agent.

The second tier club were not allowed to register
any new players into their squad due to being in
excess of their current budget, and the Japanese
striker has now had to leave.

Former Leicester City forward Shinji Okazaki has left
Malaga after 34 days.
Reports in Spain say the Japan international, 33,
has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent
because the Spanish second-tier club are unable to
fit his wages within their budget.
